Fresh Direct

Fresh Direct is a grocery delivery service in the New York metropolitan area that’s succeeded where other companies in the early part of this decade failed (WebVan, for one).

One of their more interesting features (at least for me) is the ability to view recipes on their website along with nutritional information, and with few clicks order the necessary ingredients and elect to have the recipe emailed to you on the day the ingredients are delivered to you. Recipes come from recipe books and magazines, and what’s particularly nice about their ordering setup is that if a recipe calls for three carrots, you can order three carrots!

Less compelling, but still interesting, are Fresh Direct’s line of ready-to-cook meals. This idea has obviously been done before, but I’m impressed by the amount of nutritional information that’s available for each dinner. Now if only it were easier to access and to compare across different meals…
