Stomach stapling as a cure for obesity
You know that obesity is starting to have a very important affect in the UK when the first page of their online site has more than 3 articles about the issue. The latest one talks about the latest recommendations by the The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (included in a report due to be published soon) about the plans for treating obesity in children and adults.
Apparently it suggests “that severely overweight teenagers for whom other treatments have failed should be offered surgery, including ‘stomach stapling’, as a last resort to prevent them from developing diabetes, cancer and serious heart conditions.”
It’s a bit like cutting someone open with a chainsaw and offering them a band-aid in return. This focus on the results as opposed to the root causes will not solve the problem.
