Smart plate

In the “let’s nanny people into health” section of the web, here’s the Smart plate. I can’t say i really approve of these drastic measures but the implementation is interesting. Puts a different twist on the idea of “everyday intelligence”.

“A dinner plate, 15 cm diameter, equipped with weight sensors & connected to a palm-sized computer, which complaints out loud (e.g. “stop right there! and what about excess weight?” and “where’s your willpower?”) when too much food has been placed on top of it. an alternative version of this persuasive technology plays music faster & more aggressively if the diner eats quickly (as measured by the number of times the fork hits the plate), & more calmly if the meal is consumed slowly.”
