Cooking skills and feminism
A fascinating and very engaging article in the Guardian about the influence of early feimisits in pushing women out of the kitchen arguing that:
“First you sink into his arms, then your arms end up in his sink.”
The article goes on to link the relationship between educated women in the 50s and the boom in sales of microwaves and eventually readymade meals and a household’s reliance on these quick and easy ways to get gourmet meals on the table. The problem of course presents itself when one analyses the content of those mass-manufactured gourmet meals and their fat, salt and sugar content.
Whatever our cooking skills, a home cooked meal, I would guess, would be healthier than a frozen one. It’s just a hunch though..
